A slight detour....

March 9, 2005:

We're about to get on the road again, so I'm putting out a quick update.

We came back to SD about a month ago to get Gus' leg fixed and are now on our way back to Colorado to use some lift tickets and get our last bit of looking around there done.  Gus had his surgery to fix his torn ACL 2 weeks ago and got his stiches (actually staples) out this morning.  All looks good so far.  He's trying to use the leg and REALLY wants to go for a walk - but he's not allowed to do that for 6 more weeks.  He's feeling much better and we're having to keep him rather drugged up so that he'll want to stay very relaxed and not do much of anything but lay around.  We hate doing it, but it is for the best since he doesn't seem to know that he's had his leg bone cut up and patched together with a metal plate.

Although we stayed in SD for about a month - somehow we didn't get around to seeing very many folks.  We worked on a few projects around the house.  The deck is much closer to completion, and I put in a planter for herbs on the side of the house and did some other yard work - between rain storms.  A simple trip to Costco to get a couple of  new chair mats for the office turned into a major project for that room.  We ended up deciding to put in a wood laminate (fake wood) floor  instead of getting chair mats - and that led to getting the cottage-cheese ceiling scraped and retextured and painted.  But - it's done and it looks pretty darn good.

Besides work projects and doing our taxes - I did some geo-caching.  I got into this over Christmas and got my cousin Kate hooked on it too - so we did some hiking with the intent of finding these little boxes of stuff that are hidden around the area.  It's pretty cool (although Bill thinks I'm pretty nuts) because I've gotten out to places in SD that I wouldn't normally go hiking/walking in.

We're now planning on a month in Mexico when we get back from Colorado - and then heading off to China in May.

Stay in touch!
